Show Low took its name from the winning hand in a poker game between Native American scout Col. Croyden E. Cooley and his friend Marion Clark. The town's main street, Deuce of Clubs, was named after the winning card.

Situated on the edge of the Mogollon Rim, the town offers numerous recreational pursuits, including fishing, camping, hiking and horseback riding.
